On the way to a wedding client appointment, I happened to discover the Wahner Heide in Cologne at a rare moment of blossom: the yellow flower bushes were glowing everywhere in the warm sunlight. I knew immediately that this was exactly where I wanted to capture the mood and aesthetics in a golden hour photo shoot I had in mind for my new portfolio.
I returned a few days later, equipped with my camera and sturdy shoes. I scouted the location intensively, walked 13 kilometers and spent over 3.5 hours looking for the best spots - and I found what I was looking for.
In mid-May 2025, the time had come: together with a small, creative crew - consisting of models Thien-An and Kim as well as fellow photographers Theerat, Jose and myself - we put our concept into practice. We used the Golden Hour to create a warm, natural visual language that radiates well-being, tranquillity and a connection to nature.
I deliberately chose the Viltrox 16mm f1.8 for the shots - a wide-angle lens that allowed me to harmoniously embed Thien-An in the vast landscape of yellow flowers.
The result: authentic, atmospheric portraits and nature shots that show what is possible when ideas, timing and teamwork work together perfectly. And best of all: further sessions in this special location are already being planned.
