The 2026 street carnival could hardly have got off to a more energetic start. As a videographer, my task was to capture this year’s edition of WahnsinnischJECK on film at the Kulturgut Eltzhof. The event, organised by Sa Cova in the heart of Cologne-Wahn, certainly lived up to its name and offered an atmosphere that, as a media professional, one rarely experiences with such intensity.
The musical programme ensured a consistently electric atmosphere in the hall. The live elements in particular gave the party a special dynamic: Chris Sax on the saxophone and Albert Kristic on the drums delivered a performance that visibly swept the audience away. Together with DJ Andreas Zwingmann from 1st Class Entertainment, they created a soundscape perfectly tailored to the revelling crowd. Another emotional highlight of the day was the entrance of the 2026 Porz Triumvirate, who were celebrating a real home game at the Eltzhof.
When creating the aftermovie, I decided not just to film from the sidelines, but to mingle right among the crowd. This perspective was particularly exciting for me as a videographer, as it allowed me to capture the atmosphere as intimately and authentically as possible. Amidst the costumes, confetti and dancing revellers, I captured footage that reflects the sheer joy of life on that day. It was fascinating to watch how the energy of the performers on stage transferred directly to the crowd and set the entire room in motion.
Working on this project has once again shown just how much passion Sa Cova puts into the organisation. The finished aftermovie will be released shortly and aims to convey precisely this sense of community and exuberant celebration.
